Presented as the answer to economic fallout from increased hurricane frequency & Rising Energy Costs, green building received an official endorsement via the US DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY last month.
Projected financial gains from a planned heat reduction program are as follows:
$81.8 million of energy savings in 1997 dollars
734 megawatts of peak power avoided (62 percent from residential, 53 percent from office and 70 percent from retail).
170,000 tons of annual carbon emission reductions
Recommendations include: planting more trees, putting more green space on industrial roofs, using non-toxic fertilizers, & increasing building energy efficiency. . . That's also just good common sense!
